Oneonta Gorge & Lower Oneonta Falls
Oneonta Gorge is a slot canyon accessible via the Historic Columbia River Highway in Oregon. The basalt walls of the gorge are blanketed with brilliant green moss and ferns, it was a surreal experience for anyone who braved it’s obstacles. At the end of a short but treacherous walk, you end up at the base of a 100 foot waterfall that drops into a beautiful pool. There's no place else like it in Oregon.
The lower falls were only accessible if you hike up stream through chest deep water and over dangerous log jams… but after the Eagle Creek Fire devastated the area in 2017, access to the lower falls was closed to hikers indefinitely. 2 years before the fire, we captured this. Welcome back to Oneonta Gorge.
